The American Academy of Paediatrics recommends that children should remain in rear-facing seats until they are at least 2 years of age. In accordance with this advice, Britax states that the minimum age for use of their 5 point harness booster seats is 2 years and the minimum weight is 25 lbs.

  • The best 5 point harness booster seats avoid this serious problem altogether by enabling your child to remain harnessed until their weight exceeds 90 lbs. There is another model, the that is significantly cheaper ($172) but it only enables harnessed restraint up to 70 lbs instead of 90 lbs. The booster stage weight limit is also 10 lbs less (110 lbs vs 120 lbs).

There is no standard for side impact testing, so we do not know whether the Frontier or the Nautilus fares better in side impact collisions. I recommended the Nautilus over the Frontier because I think it's slightly narrower, though both seats are pretty substantial.

Hi Thanks for your recommendation for the Gracao Nautilus ... you did not mention the Britax Frontier, any particular reason ... I know the frontier (is more $) side impact rated ... is the Nautilus. One other piece of infomation is that my son has low muscles tone thru his trunk and legs ... does that point towards one seat or another?
    Thanks,Greg

Top 5 Point Harness Booster Seat Ratings Clinic

I'm trying to find Texas law on the age and weight requirements for a 5 point harness booster. I'm looking to get a spare car seat and I've been thinking that I may want to get a 5 point harness booster so that we can get more use out of it. She is only 21 months and 30 lbs, but I would think with the 5 point harness she would be okay, but I want to make sure. It's my understanding that for a regular booster the has to be at least 4 and 40 lbs. Is it the same for 5 point harness? Thanks.
